COAST CORRIDOR UNITED RACE TEAM

Ages 10/11-15/16
Year of birth: 2008 - 2014

Coast Corridor Racing is a program for those kids who have had at least club race experience, completed Track Attack or are at a similar level and are ready to increase their commitment to race training and participating in a few or more races. The program is targeted at U12 and U14/16 age athletes emerging from the Sea to Sky Corridor clubs: Sea to Sky Nordics, Spud Valley Nordics, and Whistler Nordics. The program is supported by funding from the NWSDA coach grants. The “National Winter Sports Development Association” (NWSDA) was established through the foresight and donation of the Disbrow family to assist cross-country ski clubs with proven ability to develop competitive skiers and coaches based on long-term development planning. The NWSDA has a Board of Directors, which decides on the direction and allocation of the NWSDA grants. Nordiq Canada manages and administrates the annual funding allocations of the NWSDA Board.

The Goals of the program are to:

  • Development of overall fitness and ski-specific skills.

  • Focus on Aerobic training and building a base.

  • Develop sound technique.

  • Race up to BC Championships level for younger ages and possibly Nationals for older ages.

  • Foster a strong sense of team.

  • Learn to give back to the skiing community by mentoring Track Attack or Jackrabbit skiers

The program will include dryland training starting in September and on-snow training starting in mid-November.

There will be two categories of race programming offered: 1. Track Attack Corridor Race 2. Junior Development Corridor Race. Both trainings will be held on the same days of the week and at the same times, and groups will be separated for the majority of training time allowing for age-appropriate volume and skill development. All race team training will take place either at Lost Lake or Whistler Olympic Park in Whistler.

*Coaching resources and participation numbers may dictate some modifications to schedules and times such as consecutive sessions (based on aged groupings) during the week.
