Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games

After a fall and winter of focused training, Claire Benson, Reed Murray, Veya Stevens, Holden Wilson all attended the BC Winter Games in Quesnel this past week. Recent weather and a lot of hard work allowed for racing at the Hallis Lake Nordic Trails on the first two days of the games. 

Day 1 saw Claire Benson and Holden Wilson pulling off a pair of bronze medals on in the biathlon sprints. Reed Murray skied to an 11th. 

The crew enjoyed an entertaining opening ceremonies Thursday and were up again for racing on Friday.

On day 2 Veya competed in the  interval start and on variable snow conditions worked hard for a top 10 in 9th place. Holden skied and shot to a bronze in the individual race with Reed Murray and Claire Benson, placing 4th and 14th respectively. 

Day 3 of competition had the nordic athletes traveling to Barkerville, BC where they raced 400m sprints throughout the historic town - founded in 1862. 19th century era dressed hosts welcomed the racers to a day of qualifying, heats and epic donuts from the onsite bakery. The gold rush era town proved golden for Holden, who skied through the qualifier and two heats to win the Junior finals for a gold medal.

Claire Benson, Veya Stevens and Reed Murray skied through the heats for a 7th,  10th and 13th respectively in their categories. 

After 5 days away racing, the crew is joining their teammates this week to prepare for their final championship races of the season in Salmon Arm and Whistler Olympic Park.
